A student involved in a fight at Green Bay Preble High School was arrested after a handgun and ammunition were recovered in backpack, the school district and police department confirmed on Sept. 9. No one was harmed.

Police said that after two fights in the Preble commons, the school resource officer found a handgun and ammunition that the student is believed to have brought to school. The backpack was in a locked classroom. The gun was not in the commons or in the student's possession.

The student was taken into custody, and charges will be determined as the investigation continues, according to the police department. The district said there will be additional police presence and student services staff at Preble tomorrow.
