The percentage of Frederick County households struggling to afford basic essentials increased from 2022 to 2023, with young adults and single mothers facing some of the highest rates of financial insecurity, according to a new report released by United Way of Frederick County.

The organization's report found Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed — or ALICE — households made up about 27% of the county's total households in 2023.
