A Louisiana mother whose mentally disabled, nonverbal son died in an alligator attack has been charged in his death and forbidden from contacting her three remaining kids , authorities in New Orleans said.

Hilda Vasquez, 34, was arrested Sunday and appeared in court Monday to face charges of second-degree cruelty to juveniles and negligent homicide in the death of 12-year-old Bryan Vasquez, who went missing on Aug. 14.

Bryan, whom police said did not understand English or Spanish, climbed out his bedroom window at about 5 a.m. that day and wandered off wearing nothing but an adult diaper , the family said at the time.
