The former Greens environment minister has accused Labor of becoming a cowardly, complacent government that walks away from forward-thinking policy, after the government sought to distance itself from a stated commitment to ban wood-fired heaters by 2045.

Rebecca Vassarotti said she was deeply disappointed by the "wrong" decision on wood-fired heaters, which she described as a backflip, and it was part of a pattern of behaviour since the October 2024 election.

"Labor ministers once supported this reform. Now, without explanation, they have abandoned it, and tried to rewrite history to pretend they never had. That is not just a broken promise, it is more importantly a betrayal of the community," Ms Vassarotti said.
