In a major reversal of direction, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store said Tuesday it will discontinue the effort to remodel its stores after significant customer backlash.

The move comes after the Lebanon-based restaurant and retail company recently returned to using its original logo with "Old Timer" Uncle Herschel.

"Today, we're suspending our remodels,” the company said in a statement on its website. “The vintage Americana you love will always be here.”

Cracker Barrel said it tested the remodel in only four of its 660 restaurants and is now suspending the effort.

Shares of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store tumbled in late August after the restaurant company unveiled a new, modernist logo that rankled many fans of the brand (read here ). An updated fall menu was being planned also.
