Amid rumors of a closure, Sarasota County Schools Superintendent Terry Connor and the School Board outlined Tuesday what’s next for Wilkinson Elementary, which is operating at just 50% enrollment. Among the proposals - converting it into an administrative office building.
District leaders are considering rebalancing Wilkinson students to Brentwood, Gulf Gate, and Alta Vista elementary schools while repurposing Wilkinson for other uses, including possibly housing the district’s main offices. The move comes as the district faces declining enrollment, new state education mandates, and more than $63 million in deferred maintenance at The Landings complex.
