The Sioux Falls School District had 24,211 K-12 students attend the fourth day of school Aug. 26, the day of the district’s initial enrollment count for the school year.

This number differs from the official enrollment count the district will take Sept. 26, along with every other district across the state. The official count determines state education funding for the school year.

The district can expect its official enrollment to be smaller than last year’s based on this initial report and the smaller incoming kindergarten class, district data services director Doug Morrison said.

Superintendent Jamie Nold said the district likes to look at the preliminary enrollment report early in the school year “as things start to balance out.”

This count has 124 fewer students than the initial K-1
