Maru the cat, who once held the Guinness World Record for the most views for an animal on YouTube, has died.

On his official YouTube channel , the feline's family announced that Maru "went to heaven" on Saturday, Sept. 6. They shared that the 18-year-old Scottish Fold had recently fallen ill and lost his appetite. After tests at an animal hospital, he was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma, a form of cancer, and his health declined rapidly shortly afterward.
