AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - For some families in Augusta, parks aren’t just nice to have, they’re the only place to play and gather.
An audit is underway to see how often families use Augusta’s parks. City leaders say that with more than 70 parks to maintain, tough decisions are coming about which ones to keep.
There are cameras in each of these parks snapping pictures every 15 minutes to see how these parks are used every day.
The numbers it captures could decide the future of some parks.
“I’m deeply concerned with getting rid of underutilized parks. I believe that is a misnomer for parks that don’t have the support that they should already be having,” said Daniel Scheiner, lives in Augusta.
