The crowded race for the Sioux Falls City Council's central district seat has another candidate who has filed to run in next year's election.

Zak Okuwe, a nonprofit founder and registered nurse at Sanford Health, filed on Sept. 3 to run for the seat.

In an interview, Okuwe said the city had seen 30 years of dramatic changes, population growth and increasing diversity and complexity.

"We're at a crossroads," he said.

Okuwe added that how the city's central district sees those issues offers unique challenges, and that he hoped if elected that solutions that worked for places like downtown Sioux Falls could expand elsewhere.

Okuwe cited public safety, responsible growth and affordability as some of the goals he'd like to chase as a councilor,
