COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - It has been three years since a Columbus grandmother was shot and killed while driving in an east side neighborhood, and police say they are still searching for answers.
On the afternoon of Jan. 16, 2022, 71-year-old Barbara Luke was dropping her grandson off at a home in the Delray Drive area. According to investigators, she had no idea the house was tied to teenagers, some of them connected to gang activity in the neighborhood.
“Within seconds of her pulling away, she’s sustaining gunfire,” said Sgt. Sherman Hayes with the Columbus Police Department’s violent crimes unit.
Surveillance video later revealed two masked individuals running down the street with guns and firing at Luke’s vehicle. Her car crashed just feet away from where she had dropped off her grands
