PETROLIA, Calif. —

An magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck off the coast near Humboldt County on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake hit at 12:40 p.m. about 34 miles west of Petrolia. It had a depth of about 1.2 miles. The quake was initially reported with a 4.0 magnitude.

Weak shaking was reported south of Eureka, according to USGS' "Did you Feel It" map .
