WASHINGTON — An Annandale man is being charged with second-degree murder in connection with a case that began as a suspicious death case.
On Aug. 4, Elmer Castro, 32, was taken into a local hospital by ambulance. Health officials believed Castro was intoxicated and injured from a possible fall. His health quickly declined and he died from his on Aug. 12.
The Medical Examiner's Office contacted detectives and ruled Castro's death as "suspicious." Detectives began investigating and learned that Castro was assaulted by Elmar Waldemar Xitumul Vasquez, 39, on Aug. 4.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue were called to an undisclosed location under the belief that Castro was intoxicated and took him to a local hospital. It was later determined that Castro's injuries were from being assaulted. On Fr
