HARTFORD, Conn. — A historic ribbon-cutting Tuesday marked the official opening of the University of Connecticut’s first dedicated student housing in Downtown Hartford .

The building on 525 Main St., a privately-owned apartment complex now leased by the university, will house 55 UConn Hartford students. Officials said this milestone goes beyond housing — it represents a growing connection between the university and the heart of Connecticut’s capital city.

“All of this is about connecting our students and their learning to the opportunities in the city,” said Dr. Mark Overmyer-Velázquez, UConn Hartford’s campus dean and chief administrative officer. “And that the mayor mentioned has so much to offer.”
