Bill Ring is no stranger to the housing crisis in regional Western Australia.

The Aboriginal Mental Health Worker, and former Indigenous police officer, has worked with people experiencing homelessness for decades, now in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, 600km east of Perth.

"I can go talk to anyone on the street and have a good yarn with our mob," Mr Ring said.

"They'll sing out my name, that's the way I like it, because they know I'm passionate about what I do."

However, the respected elder is now facing a housing crisis of his own.

Mr Ring has worked for the WA Country Health Service for almost five years, but throughout that time he has not had permanent housing.

Should his current accommodation fall through, he will have to move into his car.
