Chuck Coates’ name might not carry the same weight with professional wrestling fans as Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair, but it carried weight with the guys behind the curtain.
He was an enhancement talent — a “jobber” in wrestling terms — who spent his life in the ring making other guys look good. He managed to do that at the highest levels, getting to the WWE and WCW, but he also saw his share of work in independent promotions, too.
He was one heck of a tough dude, too.
Coates has died, according to multiple reports . He was 63.
Ringside News reported that Coates had been battling “serious heart issues.” The site said he had a bypass surgery recently followed by four additional surgeries. And that came after Coates beat cancer three times in his life.
Again, one heck of a tough dude.
