JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A controversial mid-decade redistricting plan is now in the hands of the Missouri Senate after the state House approved a new congressional map Tuesday afternoon.
The proposed changes could have sweeping political consequences, particularly for Kansas City and Democratic Congressman Emanuel Cleaver.
The Missouri House passed the redistricting bill shortly after 12:30 p.m. during a special legislative session called by Gov. Mike Kehoe.
The plan, backed by former President Donald Trump, aims to split Missouri’s 5th Congressional District — currently centered around Kansas City — into three separate districts.
