A state audit says more than $224,000 was misspent by the former sheriff of northern Missouri’s Randolph County.
In a news release, state Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick said his office found that former Randolph County Sheriff Aaron Wilson misappropriated or misspent $222,605 in county funds, with nearly $2,000 still unaccounted for. The report also said that Wilson used the county’s commissary account to buy eight vehicles and a trailer, forgoing the normal review and approval process.
Wilson had been barred from accessing county funds by a restraining order while he was still in office.
Fitzpatrick condemned the former sheriff’s actions, saying Wilson treated public money like a personal piggy bank and showed blatant disregard for the law. He recommends that the Randolph County Commission
