NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Nashville health agencies are bracing for what could be an active flu season.

Ahead of it, doctors and experts are warning of the dangers of flu season and emphasizing the importance of preparations.

“The vaccine works best by preventing severe disease,” said Dr. William Schaffner of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. “It helps to keep you out of the hospital, out of the intensive care unit and out of the cemetery, so it’s very important.“

Last flu season, the CDC estimated that more than 47 million people got the virus, and at least 27,000 people died.
