SIOUX CITY -- Attendance at Sioux City's three public pools declined slightly in the last fiscal year, according to statistics provided by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Pool attendance totaled 33,986 in FY 2025, down 5% from 36,035 in FY 2024 and 33% from 51,365 in FY 2023. The city's fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

"We attribute a decline in attendance from FY23 to FY25 in large part due to the post-pandemic uptick in utilization and engagement that many Park and Recreation agencies across the nation benefited from," Recreation Superintendent Justin Atlas told The Journal in an email. "Communities were eager to get outside and recreate in traditional social settings, and FY23 showed that at various facilities and programs nationwide."
