RIO RANCHO, N.M. —
The public school board approved an updated policy on student substance abuse at its meeting Monday night.
The policy passed for Rio Rancho schools reflects state law, which says that school staff must immediately report any student use of alcohol, illegal drugs or mood-altering substances, such as opioids and hallucinogens.
It also requires schools to protect employees if they report in good faith substance abuse and to act promptly in response to what has been reported.
