Utica, N.Y. — A 13-year-old boy was stabbed in the leg Tuesday afternoon near Donovan Middle School in Utica, police said.

Around 2:30 p.m., Utica police and fire units were called to the school after the school resource officer reported a juvenile had been stabbed, according to Lt. Michael Curly, a spokesperson for the Utica Police Department.

The boy was found with a stab wound to his lower leg, police said.

He was taken by the Utica Fire Department to Wynn Hospital. Police said his injury is not life-threatening.

The school was placed on lockdown as the incident unfolded during dismissal, police said.

Surveillance video shows the stabbing may have happened in a grassy or wooded area just west of the school grounds, police said.
