SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation is underway after an inmate died following an altercation Tuesday morning.

Tyler Basler, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said the altercation was between two inmates at the jail.

Basler did not identify the inmate who died or if the other inmate is facing charges. However, he did confirm that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death.

WVLT News reached out to TBI for additional information but haven’t heard back.
