MADISON, Wis. -- A Madison woman "played dead," to avoid an attacker on Madison's east side on Sunday night.

Madison police said the 57-year-old was walking to a gas station in the 3400 block of Packers Avenue just after 11:15 p.m. when a man dragged her to a vacant lot, then strangled and punched her before walking away.

Police spotted the injured woman while walking to the police station to report the attack.

Officers located and arrested Ismael Hernandez-Padilla, 39, on charges of strangulation, battery, disorderly conduct, and bail jumping.
