PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for central Oregon from Wednesday morning to Thursday evening as heavy rain threatens burn scar areas.
Afternoon and evening thunderstorms will continue to put accumulative rain down over central and eastern sections of Oregon. Rain accumulation could near an inch to an inch and a half for some in Central Oregon. Rain that falls over recently burned areas are greatest at risk of flooding.
Burn scar areas no longer have trees and shrubs to absorb abundant amounts of moisture. Trees also leave behind a layer of non-absorbing tree sap that prevents the landscape from taking in the moisture. Rain quickly rolls down higher elevations and can cause fast flooding.
Thunderstorms will struggle to make it into the valley and coastal areas
