STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYPD is heightening security measures around East River bridges and tunnels connecting Manhattan and Queens in response to a potential terror threat as the city approaches the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the Daily News is reporting.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced Tuesday at One Police Plaza that while the threat remains “unspecified and uncorroborated,” the department is taking precautionary measures.
The announcement came during a press conference at which Tisch had initially addressed an unrelated Queens double murder investigation.
“Out of an abundance of caution we are surging resources,” Tisch said. “And you can expect to see an increase in police presence at critical infrastructure locations.”
