FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A member of the 21Alive News team got much more than she bargained for when she bid on items from the now-defunct Three Rivers Festival .

Assignment Editor Maureen Mespell, a Fort Wayne native, decided to take a look at items available to bid on after the festival filed for bankruptcy in April. As someone who crafts as a hobby, a large paper cutter in one of the lots caught her eye.

“I know those are not cheap, so I thought, ‘Oh, you know, I’ll bid on that and see what happens,’” Mespell said.

She won it for $16 and when she went to pick her items up, she realized her “lot” had a lot more to it. While sifting through a small mountain of unused wristbands, office supplies and a book on how to manage not-for-profits, Mespell found several binders.
