A man who allegedly touched several children through a school fence in Sydney will face court.

On September 3, police began investigating after reports primary school students were allegedly inappropriately touched at a school in Forest Lodge in the city's inner west.

Detectives were told an unknown elderly man allegedly touched several schoolgirls, aged between eight and nine, through the school fence on September 3 and September 4.

At about 2pm yesterday, police arrested an 86-year-old man at the intersection of Bridge Road and Foss Street, Forest Lodge.

He was charged with three counts of sexually touching children under 10.

He was refused bail and will appear in court today.
