BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The rehabilitation of 19th Street continues. The Woolworth building is getting closer day by day, and at the 100-year-old former home of the Bakersfield Grocery Company, the progress is evident.
But it’s not just the private sector at work; local government is doing more than its share. The city is preparing to open up what is essentially pre-bid bidding on a new $8 million phase of its long range plan for 18th and 19th streets. Bakersfield officials will screen prospective bidders’ qualifications starting in a couple of weeks, then solicit actual construction estimates from the half-dozen or so deemed best suited for the project.
