SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The fire at Avista Stadium was determined to be an accident, according to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD).
The incident occurred on September 5, with Spokane fire crews responding to reports of smoke and flames from the stadium’s concessions building. Crews quickly controlled the blaze.
According to Patrick Erickson, SVFD Interim Community Affairs Director, investigators discovered that the fire began in the space above the walk-in cooler on the west side of the concession building. From there, it quickly spread into the attic. Erickson added that no fire protection or smoke detection systems were installed in the building.
