MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - A 14-year-old was arrested Tuesday after making threats toward Mitchell County High School, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The law enforcement agency said in a press release shared Tuesday evening that a “text message began spreading among students that contained a threat to commit a shooting at the school.”

The next day, investigators identified the teen responsible for the threats, arrested them and took them to a youth detention center.

A large police presence was seen at all the district’s schools on Tuesday following the threat to “help ensure the safety of our students and staff,” per the district.

Investigators say there was “no indication the minor was ever present on campus after the threat was made.”
