DermaRite Industries has significantly expanded a voluntary recall of hand soaps, skin creams and other personal hygiene products, adding 12 more products to a growing list of contaminated healthcare items that could pose serious health risks.
The company first recalled four products after discovering contamination with Burkholderia cepacia complex, a dangerous bacteria. The expanded recall now includes 16 products total — ranging from hand sanitizers and antiseptic soaps to skin creams and even deodorant.
The recalled products were distributed nationwide and in Puerto Rico.
The bacteria contamination is especially dangerous for people with weakened immune systems, who could develop life-threatening blood infections or sepsis. Even healthy people with minor cuts or skin irritations
