PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Sustainable biotech company Natural Fiber Welding will wind down operations, but its future is unclear.

NFW’s Chief Executive Officer Steve Zika said the board made the “difficult decision.”

He also said the company, which turns recyclables into clothing, will not be “closing,” while exploring all options, while “winding down operations.”

“While we continue to explore all options, the Board has made the difficult decision to begin the orderly wind down of the company’s operations,” said Zika in a written statement. “This is not the outcome we want, but it is the most responsible path for our stakeholders at present.”

Peoria County Administrator Scott Sorrel said it is sad to see, but he hoped people would not see this as a loss.
