CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - The University of Northern Iowa’s ROTC program will stay on campus as an ‘extension unit’ after previously being identified for inactivation.
Following an announcement in late June, the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) program was identified for inactivation as part of a national “rebalance and optimization” of ROTC programs across the county.
UNI and the Iowa National Guard partnered to explore options and ensure cadets could stay on campus.
According to a release, UNI’s ROTC program will remain on campus after transitioning to an “extension unit” of the University of Iowa’s program.
“The Army’s decision affirms the strength of UNI’s ROTC program and ensures that students can continue to pursue their education and military training right here in Cedar Falls
