If needed, getting them a pair of eyeglasses can make a big difference, whether your kid is nearsighted, farsighted, or has another condition in need of correction.

The classroom can be the place where this handicap is first noticed.

"They, oftentimes, are maybe getting headaches, and just not really participating in class," said Cate Jordan, a pediatric ophthalmologist. "And sometimes they may look like their eyes are drifting out and not paying attention, or they might squint an eye or cover an eye when they're reading."
