CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - Coralville City Council members decided to move forward with an Equal Protection Resolution on Tuesday night.
There was not a formal vote, but a majority of councilors were in favor of taking a vote in an upcoming meeting.
This follows a move by Iowa City to reaffirm protections against discrimination based on gender identity.
People at the Coralville meeting say it is important for local government to do this given recent changes to state laws.
“Unfortunately Iowa is feeling less like home and more like an inevitable possibility of harm,” said a Coralville resident. “Because of this my partner and i have had numerous discussions about leaving to find somewhere safer and more inclusive.”
