GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — In response to a recent string of homicides, community members and leaders gathered Monday evening for an emergency meeting aimed at addressing violence in Grand Rapids neighborhoods.

The meeting, organized within hours, was led by the Baxter Neighborhood Association. The executive director said the urgency reflected the seriousness of the ongoing situation.

The conversation followed several recent killings, including the Aug. 10 murder of 38-year-old Randy Campbell, the Sept. 2 murder of 41-year-old Marcus Jerome Jones — both near Diamond Avenue — and the most recent, Sept. 6 homicide of 23-year-old DaShawn Guyton.

Community advocates, including an organization called Cure Violence, outlined strategies to prevent future tragedies.
