DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Dozens of University of Minnesota Duluth workers hit the picket line Tuesday after union members overwhelmingly rejected the latest contract offer .

The workers, represented by Teamsters Local 320, include maintenance staff, dining employees, and grounds crews. Union leaders said 82 percent of members voted against the proposal.

At times, about 100 workers lined College Street and other areas around campus, holding signs and chanting for higher wages.

Union leaders said members are asking for a 3.5 percent wage increase in the first year of a two-year contract, with another 3.5 percent increase in the second year. They argue the request is fair given the scope of their work.
