Cost of Bristol City Council staff exit payoffs hits £1.4m in a year
The cost of exit payoffs to Bristol City Council staff rose by £300,000 last year. The authority paid £1.47million in golden handshakes to departing employees compared with £1.17million in the previous 12 months , according to the organisation’s annual draft statement of accounts for 2024/25 .
This was despite the total number of severance packages for compulsory redundancies and “other departures”, such as voluntary redundancies and early retirement, falling from 72 to 52.
The highest two were £157,000 and £122,000 but the accounts do not name the individuals who received them. The biggest single payment the previous year was just £69,000.
On average, employees leaving the council with payoffs received £28,230 c
