A recent guest column in the Gazette-Mail under the headline “Reason, Not Passion: The Business Case for a Fair and Independent Court System,” quoted Aristotle as saying, “Law is reason, free from passion.”

That’s true, but that doesn’t mean weakening our laws in favor of huge corporations. It means fairness, balance and impartiality. Corporations worth billions of dollars are demanding that West Virginia citizens have our constitutional rights taken away to increase their profits. That isn’t reason. That’s passion in its worst form — greed.
