Consumers are being urged to wash tomatoes before they eat them
An alert has been issued following a Salmonella outbreak that has affected 29 people in the UK.
Testing conducted by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) identified cherry tomatoes from Sicily, Italy, as the source of the infection. Additional countries affected include Germany, Austria and France.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) warned that the risk of further infection will persist whilst contaminated seasonal produce continues to be distributed.
