Orangeburg City Council approved rate increases for the Department of Public Utilities (DPU).

The increases are part of a five-year plan to fund capital and infrastructure improvements.

The total monthly increase for residents inside the city with all four services (electric, gas, water, wastewater) will be $9.84, a 3.7% increase.

The total monthly increase for residents outside the city with all four services will be $12.86, a 4.1% increase.

The new rates will take effect on October 1 and will be reflected on bills starting in November.
