Southern suburbs residents who live in areas where large amount of leaves are dropped may soon be receiving an extra bin.

The City of Melville council voted unanimously at its August 19 meeting for a proposal from Cr Clive Ross that the city investigate providing an extra Food Organics Green Organics bin to residents in areas where trees shed a lot of leaves during autumn.

The extra bin would be delivered free of charge by the city and picked up at the end of autumn.

Cr Ross said it would help keep the city’s streets clean.

“Currently the road sweeper does not remove leaves from the verges or footpaths, consequently the potential slip hazard on the verges or footpaths are not being addressed,” he said.
