Information about Wednesday's "Block Everything" demonstrations surfaced on social media, drawing comparisons to the 2018 "Yellow Vest" protests that initially sprang up over fuel hikes but morphed into a broader movement against French President Emmanuel Macron and his plans for economic reform.

Members of the Block Everything movement, which analysts and officials say started among right-wing groups before being taken over by the left and far left, said they considered the political system was no longer fit for purpose.
