Homewoner Matt Simpson admits that guests at he and his wife's family home in the rural NSW town of Taralga have been surprised when they have been shown their accommodation for the evening.
"They have been a bit hesitant when we have told them they will be sleeping on the floor, but they are soon converted," Mr Simpson said.
The guest room is a work of art, a traditional Japanese tatami room, transported to a unique home in the state's southern tablelands.
"In a Japanese tatami room, people would typically live there during the day and at night pull the futon, which has been stored in its own cupboard.
"We have replicated that in the guest room and it is a wonderful way to sleep on the floor atop a 50mm futon."
