Convicted rapist and former Kiama MP Gareth Ward has dropped his defamation case against a Sydney radio station.

The matter was due to go before the District Court for a directions hearing on Thursday, but on Wednesday afternoon, it was revealed that the matter was dismissed by consent of the parties.

Ward launched defamation action against 2SM in early 2024, but the civil matter was paused until his criminal proceedings were finalised.

He had alleged the radio station caused "serious harm" to his reputation.

In July this year, a jury found Ward, 44, guilty of sexual intercourse without consent committed against a 24-year-old man in 2015, and three counts of indecent assault of an 18-year-old man in 2013.
