The Emmet County Board of Commissioners has secured a $736,843 grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation to help fund PFAS mitigation efforts at the Pellston Regional Airport, and more funding may soon be on the way.

The commissioners reviewed the grant contract during their meeting on Monday, Sept. 8. According to agenda materials, the grant is for the implementation of an airfield environmental mitigation project at the Pellston airport. This project includes a PFAS Pilot Program and soil stabilization testing to address environmental concerns. The total project is funded through a federal grant under the FAA's Airport Improvement Program. The local share is 5% of the project cost, or $36,843.
