A 25 year old man, Isaac Daniel, has died by suicide in Balaka after being accused of mismanaging K41,000 from timber sales.

According to Balaka Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha, Daniel was part of a joint timber selling business with friends and was recently accused of misappropriating the funds and the matter was resolved by Village Headman Mateyu who ordered him to repay the money later.

However, M’bumpha revealed that after the incident, Daniel began drinking excessively and behaving strangely by throwing stones on villagers rooftops.

The spokesperson adds that on the night of Monday, September 8, 2025, at James Village under Traditional Authority Nsamala, where he also came from, Daniel was found hanging from a Masau tree with a cotton trouser belt.
