DULUTH — Josh Madson’s 15-year career in professional celebrity-driven photography nearly saw its end during the pandemic until a collage project in Mankato brought his business back to life.

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue on in photography,” Madson said. “I lost everything.”

With a background working alongside notable photographers such as Annie Leibovitz and doing direct campaigns for brands like L’Oreal and Goop by Gwyneth Paltrow, in addition to serving as creative director for Ipsy, the COVID shutdowns left Madson displaced.

However, a twist of fate in an unassuming Minnesota town gave his passion for capturing authentic moments a new focus.

Originally from the Fargo-Moorhead area, Madson’s family lived in the Twin Cities before he took a chance on moving to Los Angeles
