IOWA CITY — Mark Gronowski ’s play to open the 2025 season has not been inspiring. The Iowa football quarterback is 21-of-39 passing (53.8%) for 127 yards combined across his first two games as a Hawkeye.

To put that into perspective, Cade McNamara was 29-of-52 (55.8%) for 314 yards in the first two games of his Iowa career.

Even with the addition of Hank Brown’s four passing yards against Albany, the numbers are ugly so far. The Hawkeyes are currently almost dead last in the FBS in passing yards per game at just 65.5.

But while Gronowski certainly hasn't played to his potential, he isn’t all to blame for the sluggish aerial attack. The signal caller could use more help from his pass catchers. That was especially evident in the Hawkeyes’ 16-13 loss to Iowa State on Sept. 6.
